We monitor and fact check media coverage of human trafficking and will share the top cases with you from each week. A broad view of what is happening across the country can be translated into action, allowing us to collectively change the system and the public narrative.

We appreciate the recent focus on child sex trafficking on social media, but let’s make sure we’re leaning on the facts and real cases.

Florida Men arrested for allegedly trafficking children  “Authorities say the boy’s families paid more than $1,000 each to send them to the U.S. The boys were told they would have to work off additional travel expenses.” While most people think of child trafficking, they imagine female victims, but boys are also at risk. Especially now, with classrooms shut and parents losing their jobs in the pandemic, thousands of children are spending record time online, exposed and at risk.

Kentucky Louisville man arrested again for allegedly trying to sell minor for sex Collective Liberty’s faculty have provided training on many law enforcement best practices to agencies throughout the State of Kentucky, including their Attorney General’s Office, who conducted this operation. Targeting traffickers, and not survivors is the most victim-centered way to conduct operations and we applaud the work being done in Louisville.

Nebraska Bluffs Man Charged With Sex Trafficking of Minor; Child Enticement The investigation began in the summer of 2019 after the foster parents of a 13-year-old girl found sexually explicit photos and videos on her phone. During a search of the phone, police found Facebook messages between Lozoya and the girl about smoking ‘dabs’ and having sex.

We often have a predisposed idea as to what a trafficker looks like, and sometimes it isn’t what we think. Sometimes the exploiters are high-powered or well-known members of our communities.

Peter Nygard seeks bail while facing sex trafficking charges in U.S. The U.S. Attorney’s Office alleges that for 25 years Canadian fashion mogul targeted women and underage girls from disadvantaged economic backgrounds with promises of modelling and financial opportunities. They say Nygard forcibly sexually assaulted many women and girls, some who were between 14 and 17 years old.

North Carolina Police charge man with human trafficking after 16-year-old girl dies of apparent OD A teenager is dead from an apparent drug overdose after police say a man held the girl against her will so he could sell her into prostitution. The man was charged with human trafficking, sexual servitude of a child, promoting prostitution, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, and statutory rape of a child. We are extremely proud of the work being done by our partners in Fresno, Houston, and Waco and as always proud to work with and provide support to such a great group of trafficking investigators.

Texas Fresno man pleads guilty to sex trafficking 14-year-old girl in Houston The trafficking scheme began in May 2016, when Thomas met the 14-year-old runaway in Dallas and convinced her he could help her make money. He posted a commercial sex advertisement on the website Backpage and began pimping her.

Texas Waco man was arrested on second-degree felony charges of conspiracy to commit human trafficking of a minor and prostitution of a minor, after a McLennan County Sheriff’s Office sting operation.

Victims of sex trafficking suing owners of Norcross Red Roof Inn; allege hotel turned a blind eye to prostitution Human trafficking is embedded into our economies, crossing sectors and industries, especially the hospitality industry. Traffickers often take advantage of the privacy and anonymity accessible through hotels and motels. It is crucially important for hospitality employees be aware of human trafficking signs and report to the police as soon as possible. January is Human Trafficking Prevention month and Collective Liberty wants to give 5 lucky winners a chance to show their support!
